Вышел BP6 _alpha 15: тестируем

Уважаемые господа!

Вышла и доступна для скачивания новая версия (15-я "альфа") BP:
patcher.rom.by/bp6a15.zip

Hi,

first, sorry, I don't understand anything in Russian.

I have a Abit KT7a v1.1 (KT133a with an Thunderbird 1 Ghz), and bios A9 patched with Bios Patcher v6a15.

1) I understood that pressing the key "-" during the boot loads the "old" A9 firmware. Is it true ?

2) Sometime, the BiosPatcher logo and new bios date disappear (even if I don't press the "-" key). Is it normal ?

3) I'm going to buy an Athlon XP-M 2800+ (Mobile Barton), I hope to make it work with my card.

I saw the /a option in bios patcher :

"/a - select multipl-r for Mobile AMD processor: "/a3"=3.0x, "/a16.5"=16.5x etc"

What's the aim of this option ??? Will it be useful for me ? I don't understand.

Thanks

1. Yes. The "-" key uses to load old (not patched) firmware version. If patched firmware version working not correctly, use "-" key to boot old firmware version and flashing normal (not patced) firmware version.
2. If you patched your firmware successfully then you may use "/s" key for creating patched firmware that cannot be reversed to original version as you would do with "-" key
3. Low multiplier using for guaranteed start CPU. When operating system is loaded, you can change multiplier using special soft (SoftFSB, etc.)

1) Is this /a parameter set the maximal multiplier value during the boot ?
2) If I set  /a=16  (with NO "pin mod"), my PC with the Athlon XP-M 2800+ is going to start at 16*133 Mhz, that's it ?
3) But, after the boot, what's the speed ? always 16*133 ??

Thanks

1) This parameter is used to set startup multtiplier for mobile Athlon XP processors, both "native" or L5-modded. If your CPU does not have PowerNow functions enabled - this parameter is of no use to you.

3) It can be set to any value lower than 16*133. Again - only if you have PowerNow enabled by closng L5 bridge. Look here for details.

oh sh** ....
I don't have the processor yet,
but I think it will have PowerNow (Mobile Athlon XP-M 2800+)

I heard my Abit KT7a card is only stable with the 17x multiplier (match 9x on my old KT7a v1.1 motherboard).
1) So first, I can't start with a 17x multiplier ?
2) And after the boot, what's the speed ? always 16*133 ?? Or maybe a dynamic multiplier, anything lower than 16*133 ? (see before, the report of Bios Patcher says
"Adding AMDK7NOW! support     : -> fixed."
so I suppose my old KT133a motherbord now have functional PowerNow ?

Thanks

Why can't you? If you have "natively" mobile CPU - you can set it to any multiplier (equal or less than start one), it is not locked, AFAIK. So, if your mobo doesn't support 13x and higher - just insert a little wire into CPU socket (see AMD CPU FAQ for details). If you want to unlock all multipliers upto 24x - you have to do some painting on your CPU with silver ink or conductive glue or whatever.

Partially right. You can change multiplier to anything lower than 16x, but not automagically(tm):). You have to do it manually each time you need more or less processing power. Or mess with programs like CrystalCPUId and load them every time, when you start Windows. For Linux - there are some pieces of software like k7ctl, but I don't know much in this area.

IT WORKS !!!!!

Abit KT7a v1.1

Athlon XP-M 2800+@3000+ (2133@2266 MHz, 16*133@17*133 Mhz);

I started with 12.5*133, boot ok (except I was compelled to Reset everytime I start the machine).

I used the "wire trick", to access coefficient > 12.5.

Only the 17x seems stable with the motherboard (which is sufficient to me!), pressing the power button now seems ok to start the machine (no need Ressetting, I have to confirm that however).

But I don't understand why 17x works ??? because my original XP-M 2800+ has a maximum coef of 16x ?????

Thanks

Note: CrystalCPU doesn't start.

Changing the coef with CPUMSR under windows freezes the pc (it was the same with my previous thunderbird 1 Ghz)

Hey guys,

I think I'll just hijack this thread as well;). I'm in the same situation as jean019.
I have a MSI K7T Turbo2 KT133a whose newest bios supports up to AthlonXP 2600+, apparently at 16x133.
I don't care so much about high performance however and more about heat dissipation/noise/power usage,
so I'm planning to buy a Sempron 2600+ (or something like it) that normally runs at 11x166 so I'll
be underclocking it to 11x133 which is still 1.5 Ghz @ ~50W and I may even be able to keep using my
current cpu cooler (since it is rated for an Athlon XP ~ 3200+ (Barton)).
BUT I'm wondering whether my mainbord will accept it.

Now I know that BP 4.23 can add support for Athlon XP's but I don't know about Socket A Semprons
(they are nearly identical, right?) and I couldn't find any release info for BP 4.51b or 6a9,
(btw, the links to amibcp.exe on the website are broken - I found it on the wiki).

So do you guys think this is going to work?

And Jean, would you suggest that I look for a mobile XP instead? I don't want to be dependant on a
windows tool, in any case, as I might be running linux as well.

I'm now running a Duron 800 and I did the pencil trick once to unlock the multipliers but it only runs
stable at 850mhz and I can't be bothered with it so much anyway, these days.
