I think I'll just hijack this thread as well. I'm in the same situation as jean019.
I have a MSI K7T Turbo2 KT133a whose newest bios supports up to AthlonXP 2600+, apparently at 16x133.
I don't care so much about high performance however and more about heat dissipation/noise/power usage,
so I'm planning to buy a Sempron 2600+ (or something like it) that normally runs at 11x166 so I'll
be underclocking it to 11x133 which is still 1.5 Ghz @ ~50W and I may even be able to keep using my
current cpu cooler (since it is rated for an Athlon XP ~ 3200+ (Barton)).
BUT I'm wondering whether my mainbord will accept it.
Now I know that BP 4.23 can add support for Athlon XP's but I don't know about Socket A Semprons
(they are nearly identical, right?) and I couldn't find any release info for BP 4.51b or 6a9,
(btw, the links to amibcp.exe on the website are broken - I found it on the wiki).
So do you guys think this is going to work?
And Jean, would you suggest that I look for a mobile XP instead? I don't want to be dependant on a
windows tool, in any case, as I might be running linux as well.
I'm now running a Duron 800 and I did the pencil trick once to unlock the multipliers but it only runs
stable at 850mhz and I can't be bothered with it so much anyway, these days.
